Woman accusing cashier of giving her the wrong change: "Don't make me put my baby down!"
Target, Port Richmond
Eavesdropped by Topanga Klamble
Editor's Note: This fascinating phrase was first noted in this overheard post from a Wawa on South Street.
I have to wonder: is the woman at the Target in Port Richmond (there's a Target in Port Richmond?) the same woman from the Wawa? Or is it a reader of this site who has appropriated the phrase? Is submitter Topanga Klamble hoaxing me? Or maybe: this expression is more common that I thought.
In any event, I hereby move that "Don't make me put my baby down!" be made the official motto of Philadelphia. I would also like to see the phrase adopted widely by all Philadelphians when they find themselves irritated or annoyed, regardless of whether they happen to be holding a baby or not.
And when "Don't make me put my baby down!" becomes as ubiquitous as "Talk to the hand" please remember: you heard it here first.
